The solar energy industry is stronger than ever with over 1.5 million American homes utilizing solar power systems. Unknown to some, the Midwest enjoys tremendous sunlight hours per year, making it the perfect region of the country to install solar panels. We recognized this nearly a decade ago and developed the goal of bringing solar to the Midwest.

We are proud to represent an industry that significantly reduces the amount of carbon emissions emitted each year, resulting in clearer air and water, today and for generations to come.  Solar also employees more Americans than the oil and coal industries combined, leading to economic growth. We are thankful at Lifetime Solar to contribute to this vital and sustainable clean renewable energy source.

Frequently Asked Questions about Lifetime Solar

If I ever have an issue with my solar power system, who do I contact?

Lifetime Solar is not only your design, sales and installation partner, we will also be there in the off-chance you ever encounter an issue with your system. If an issue ever occurs you will contact us and we will conduct all warranty work authorized by the manufacturer at the manufacture’s cost. It’s that simple so rest assured that system will be worry-free for years to come.

What will I be responsible for during the installation process?

When we say your system is turn-key, we mean it. We will contact your electric company concerning your install and we will complete as much of the necessary net-metering paperwork as possible. You will need to sign the net-metering agreement and provide some basic information, but we will guide you through that process and answer any of your questions. That is the extent of your efforts. If local building permits are required, we will secure them. When the time comes for your electric company to inspect your installed solar power system, we will contact them and arrange the inspection. Rest easy that Lifetime Solar will make sure all steps are properly completed along the way.

How long will my Lifetime Solar installation take?

From the date you sign your solar agreement contract, your solar power system will likely be installed in as little as 30 days. Once you complete the necessary paperwork, we will finalize your solar power system design and begin preparing your net-metering agreement. Your electric company will take approximately three weeks to provide initial installation approval, during which time we will secure any necessary local construction permits. Once we install your system, local and electrical company inspections can take up to 20 days. For residential and light commercial installations, we anticipate placing the system in service within two months of completing construction.

Should I wait for better technology to come out?

Even though solar technology will continue to improve, those improvements in engineering and efficiency are minute, and take years of testing before they are brought to market. Lifetime Solar installs the latest solar technology manufactured by companies with a track record of reliability and demonstrated performance. Once you start generating your own clean electricity with solar, the saving start immediately. With escalating electrical rates, there has never been a better time to go solar.

What is the warranty on solar components?

All our solar panels come with a manufactures’ 25 year performance warranty. Our inverters typically carry between 12-25 year warranties. Our financial modeling includes warranties and product lifecycles into your payback analysis. Silicon based solar panels are a tried and true technology and have been shown to perform reliably for 40+ years.

In winter months, do I need to remove snow from my solar panels?

There is never a need to remove snow from your solar panels. When we design your solar power system system, we model your production based on your property’s longitude and latitude, and your annual energy production estimates already take into account your regions typical weather patterns, including average snow amounts. Additionally, panels are constructed of dark materials and usually gather enough sun within a few days to melt the snow, which then slides off the slick glass surface.

If the utility grid goes down, will I continue to have electricity?

As a safety, precaution, solar power system panels and inverters automatically power down during a grid outage to protect utility-line workers. When power is restored on the grid power-lines, your solar power system will automatically power on. If continuous power, even during grid outages, is important to you, our team can design a system with battery back-up and generator capabilities.

Will my property insurance cover my solar power system?

Typically, damage to your solar power system should be covered by your property insurance policy. We recommend our customer’s contact their insurance agent before installation for a review of your policy to determine whether a special endorsement is necessary. Our customers report an increase of between $0 – $30 a year to their premium.

How do I maintain my solar system?

Solar panel technology is simple, sturdy and efficient. As a solid-state technology, solar panels have no moving parts and therefore require very little, if any, maintenance.  Annual service may include cleaning the panels and possibly checking the connections. Lifetime Solar conducts Operations & Maintenance (O&M) checks on the systems we sell through the monitoring system we provide with every install. This allows us to remotely monitor your system for proper functionality.

How durable are solar panels and will hail cause damage?

Solar panels are engineered to be highly resistant to all weather conditions. Damage from hail is extremely rare. All our panels are manufactured to meet or exceed international standards of withstanding the impact of a one-inch diameter hail stone traveling at 50 mph. The angled installation of the panels also minimizes the risk from hail damage.
